Dudley was the name given to my Dad by his parents as it was the name of his Father's friend. Dad didn't really like the name but it was always used by family and friends of his from many years ago. His former workmates, neighbours and friends will know him as Doug and were surprised if they ever found out he was really Dudley. He didn't quite reach his 85th Birthday or his 60th wedding anniversary which would have been June 4th 2009. He leaves my Mum. May Harman, his first born and only son David and me his only daughter Pam, also his much loved only grandchild Jack, who he saw grow up to become a fine adult and worker. He was a very proud man, always neat tidy and a perfectionist in all he did. He did his apprenticeship at the Royal Small Arms factory in Enfield, durring the war he was called up to the army and also helped locally on the ambulances, but was too young to fight in WWII, his only brother was in the Royal Marines and was killed in the war, from the age of 18 Dad was the only surving child of his parents, Will and Lou Harman. When he had completed his apprenticeship Dad went to work at a maintenace engineer at Ruberoid's where he remained untill his reitirement. He worked extremly hard throughout his life, and did everything he could to provide and care for his family. He was a generous man always there to help his family, neighbours and friends, never expecting anything in return. We were always proud to be a Harman, and he was so proud of his children and his Grandson Jack, they had a very special and close relationship. He shall be missed by many. In this chapter I have only written a small amount about my Dad so you know who he was, I shall add more as time goes by. I loved him so much and can't believe he won't ever be there for me to talk to, have discussions with even argue with, when we argued that was it we never held anythng against each other and always laughed about something else in moments, that one of the rare characturistics Dad had, never bear a grudge. Dad & Mum's early years more than 25 they lived in Enfield, Middlesex, we then moved to Cheshunt in Hertfordshire, where the family home still is.
